(1) Check roster. (2) Remember race number. (3) Burn turkey.

We're getting toward the end of the season, so please check the series roster and points tallies for accuracy.  We want to get spelling, team affiliation, ASP racing age (as of 12/31/2013), and USAC license number right.  We strive for perfection but sometimes fall short.  Send an e-mail to steve at arkansascyclocross period com if anything seems fishy.

Also, yet another reminder to bring your race number if you already have one.  People have been very conscientious so we are waiving the $10 clerical fee for those racers who have needed replacement numbers. We have enough in stock to cover us through the end of the ASP season if you can help us out.

The Dillon Group Custom Homes has generously funded the series this year, including the race numbers, and the cash awards and engraved medals that will be awarded on December 15 in Rogers.  If you get the chance, please thank them for their support of cyclocross, and give them a call for your construction or remodeling needs.

Today is Black Friday which means only one thing:  Turkey Burn on Sunday!  Get you some!
Series prizes will be awarded on December 15 in Rogers following the State Championship race.
Engraved medals awarded 5 deep for Open and 3 deep for all other race classes.
In addition, cash prizes to top 5 Open and top 3 Women 1/2/3.

Two great write-ups on Cedarglades

I agree with Joe and Andrea.  Cedarglades was a great race.

Burn that turkey!

The Turkey Burn is an annual tradition, in which you take a break from eating and shopping and watching television to race bikes on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.  Word on the street is: significant changes to the Boyle Park course.

If the forecast holds and it stays dry next week, expect a fast, though technically challenging, course.  Regardless, it will be a fun day for all and the party is at the pavilion.

Joe gets it atmo

In case you hadn't seen it already:
Why We Suffer

Cedarglades Cyclocross and Attila the Hun race director Bill James would like to point out that Catharine's Landing still has cottages and yurts available for bookings this upcoming weekend.

A couple points of clarification.  Your USAC category for Saturday's cyclocross race is based on your cyclocross (CX) category, not on your cross-country (XC) category.  Your CX cat is right there on your USAC license, on the same line as your observed trials, downhill, dual slalom, and 4X cats.  If you don't have an annual USAC license, you can buy a one-day license on the day of the race, and you are automatically considered a male cat 5 or female cat 4.  Yes, it's all a bit confusing and crazy but that's bike racing for you.

If you are 40+ years old, you are also welcome to race with the Masters.  And everyone can race the Open race, but you do so at your own peril.  Those dudes will ride you into the tape just for fun!

On to Hot Springs

It was a tough day in Russellville. First off, you should know that #opcx2013 race director Anthony Moats likes tough courses, and this year's version did not disappoint.  The first half of the course was basically a barrier, followed by a muddy creek crossing, followed by a watt-sucking false flat, followed by a steep walk-up, followed by a brief technical downhill section, followed by a steep paved climb.  The second half was a net descent but had plenty of tricky sections, including another creek crossing, to keep things interesting.

Add some stiff headwinds and unseasonably hot weather in the mid-80s, and you had some very challenging conditions. In true CX spirit, both racers and spectators had a great time.

Results and points are up!

Next the series moves down to Hot Springs.  This will be a great weekend, with the brand new race Cedarglades Cyclocross on Saturday, followed by the perennial mountain bike season closer Attila the Hun on Sunday.  Stay for the whole weekend!

VOTW

VOTW is this year's Koppenbergcross in its entirety.  Dry conditions led to a tactical race, almost like a road circuit, with British champion Ian Field going off the front early.  Will he make it to the end?

Points will be updated this weekend.  The Old Post race in Russellville is a little over a week away, it will be a great race in a fantastic venue.

The cross monkeys are headed over to Tulsa this morning for Ruts n Guts.

Recovering from the De Pijp weekend

It was a doozy.  Two days of racing on deceptively challenging terrain, including a couple of greasy left turns that put a lot of racers on the ground.  Absolutely beautiful time of year in northwest Arkansas.

Arkansas Outside has another fantastic write-up.  Check it out.

Points are in process.  Don't worry, they'll be up in plenty of time for the Old Post CX.

If you are in Tulsa this weekend say Hi to the crew in brick and yellow.  Ruts n Guts is an event not to miss!
