Tour Schmour

The Tour de France is your annual reminder that fall is just around the corner, which means only one thing: CYCLOCROSS!

The Arkansas Super-Prestige (ASP) cyclocross points series is putting the final touches on its 2013 calendar.  There will be ten races in the series, spanning from October through December.  The Dillon Group has stepped up as title sponsor for the series and will be awarding prizes and a $1200 cash purse (above and beyond prizes awarded at individual races).

The complete series calendar and rules will be announced soon, but here's a preview of some changes this year:

Changes

There are two new racing classes in the series this year: Men's cat 5 and Women's cat 4.  The daily schedule of events now has three waves.

Here is the standard schedule of events:
    10:00am Women cat 1/2/3, Masters 40+, Men cat 4 (45 minutes)
    11:15am Men cat 5, Women cat 4, Junior 10-18 (35 minutes)
    12:30pm Open (55 minutes)

[Cat refers to USA Cycling CX category.  If you have a USAC license, your CX category is listed right there on the card.  If you don't have a USAC license, you can purchase a one-day license on the day of the event for $10 and race as a cat 5 (men) or cat 4 (women).]

The points schedule changes slightly from last year.  First place gets 10 points, second gets 9, on down to 1 point for tenth place and lower.  Open race scores double points, except eleventh place and lower get only 1 point.  Open means OPEN, so if you want to race twice, please be our guest!

Because of the greater number of dates on the calendar this year, there are two drop-races per racer.  So your series point total will reflect your eight best races.
The off-season posts have been pretty text-heavy so here's a nifty little vid to brighten your day.
