The Leap of Faith

Getting off the bike and carrying or pushing it around sounds like a bit of a hassle, but getting back on the thing is probably the number one skill that confounds potential crossers.

For some, the Remount comes totally naturally and is no big deal.  For the rest of us, it takes some work, but assuming you're already riding your bike on a semi-regular basis, you can take a few reps any time you pass a grassy field.

Monday cross practice & Arkansas Super-Prestige

As written up in this morning's Democrat-Gazette, Keegen will be holding a weekly cross practice at Little Rock's Allsopp Park on Monday evenings at 6pm.  The first one starts next Monday, September 5.

This will be an excellent opportunity to get your dismount, remount, and portages sorted out before cross season starts, whether you've ever raced a bike or not.  The Beginner's Corner section to the right has several links that will help get you in the right frame of mind.  The focus will be on learning and honing your cyclocross-specific skills.

Also off to the right is the calendar for the inaugural Arkansas Super-Prestige points series.  More details will be rolled out shortly, so bookmark this site!  As you can see, cyclocross racing actually exists in the Natural State; if any more proof were necessary, check out this vid:

Bamacross 2011/12

We at arkansascyclocross.com have great love for Bamacross.  They've got a 10-race series lined up this year, running from October through January, and if last year was any indication, field sizes will again be substantial.  The drive to Birmingham gets quicker by the year as they complete more sections of I-22.  If you can make it out there for a race or two, I highly recommend it.
